Long before we had telephones, the quickest way for people to communicate over long distances was to use a telegraph.  In 1838, Samuel Morse developed a system of dots and dashes to be used with the telegraph, a system known as the Morse code.

The Morse Code Experiment Kit was designed to show the principle of the telegraph. It consists of a D cell battery holder, a telegraph key, a miniature lamp with holder, three connector cords, and instructions.
